A woman stated that despite having to travel in the area frequently, she takes longer routes to avoid driving on the Inland Island Highway. She continued: "They should not get away with what they did, so I am happy to hear that." A young man has been charged with mischief and causing injury after intentionally placing rocks on a highway in Qualicum Beach, which damaged five vehicles. In May of this year, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were called to two separate locations for two separate incidents where rocks had been deliberately placed on the Inland Island Highway between the Little Qualicum River Bridge and the Coqualtic Road. Five vehicles were damaged after hitting the rocks, but none of their occupants were injured. A 19-year-old man from Qualicum Beach has been charged with one count of mischief over $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 20, 2026. Lisa Holm, whose car was damaged by the rocks, had previously spoken with CHEK News, detailing the extent of the damage to her vehicle and the delay in receiving a response from her insurance company. Holm added that hearing about the charges being laid against one of the responsible parties has given her peace of mind.
