School Shooting in Canada: Nine Dead, Including Shooter

A shooting at a school in British Columbia, Canada, left at least nine people dead, including the suspect, and two other people found dead in a home believed to be related to the incident, Canadian authorities reported Tuesday. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported that more than 25 people were injured, including two with life-threatening injuries, following the shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. The injured were treated at the local medical center, and two others were airlifted with extremely serious injuries. They added that officers are searching homes and properties in the town, located about 1,150 kilometers northeast of Vancouver, to ensure there are no more victims and ruled out any other suspects. A police alert issued during the attack described the suspect as "a woman in a dress and brown hair". Families have identified the presumed perpetrator of the school massacre, it is Jesse Strang, a 17-year-old transgender woman who allegedly took her own life inside the school. Russel G. Strang, Jesse's uncle, revealed to a local media outlet that his relative was responsible for the school tragedy that left 25 injured, after he stormed the school premises to open fire on students and subsequently inflicted a fatal injury on himself. "It's hard to know what to say on a night like this. It's the kind of things that seem to happen in other places and not close to home," British Columbia Premier David Eby said to the press. Police have given few details about the shooter, other than that they are considering it could be a woman.
