Canada School Shooting: Nine Dead, Including Perpetrator

Canadian police identified 18-year-old Jesse Vanrootselaar on Wednesday as the alleged perpetrator of a shooting that killed at least nine people at a school in western Canada. The Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia, Dwayne McDonald, also revised the death toll down from ten to nine, including the perpetrator of the massacre, who, according to investigators, took her own life. Another 27 people were injured in the attack, two of them critically, although the police also stated that in some cases, the injuries were not directly caused by the shooter. Among the victims are five students of Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, a remote community of about 2,400 people located in the interior of British Columbia: three 12-year-old girls and two 12 and 13-year-old boys. Another victim is a 39-year-old teacher at the school, while the two people found dead in a residence in the town are the mother and 11-year-old half-brother of Vanrootselaar.
