The company Tesla Inc. has decided to raise the prices of its vehicles in Canada while encouraging buyers to purchase imported cars before retaliatory tariffs on cars manufactured in the United States come into effect. This measure is taken as a way to protect itself from the taxes imposed by President Donald Trump last month, including a 25 percent tariff on vehicle content produced outside the U.S. under the USMCA trade agreement.
An announcement was posted on Tesla's website in Canada inviting exploration of the inventory with pre-tariff prices while supplies last. According to previous reports from a Tesla-specialized site in Canada, prices for certain models, such as the all-wheel-drive Cybertruck, could be up to 22 percent higher for Canadian buyers on new orders.
Prices for new orders on Tesla's website as of April 26 were higher compared to the same models already in inventory. For example, the price of Model 3 long-range all-wheel-drive vehicles marked for new orders was 79,990 Canadian dollars, while the same models from the year 2025 that were already in inventory were offered for around 69,000 Canadian dollars.
Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, has faced criticism in Canada for his support of the U.S. president, who has expressed his desire for Canada to be part of his country. Musk, on the other hand, has stated that he will dedicate more time to Tesla starting next month, after the automaker recorded its worst financial results for the first quarter in years.
