Controversy Over Elon Musk's Canadian Citizenship

A petition started by the Member of Parliament of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Charlie Angus, in Canada has received the support of about 171,000 people to revoke Elon Musk's Canadian citizenship. The petition, which began on February 20, alleges that Musk is involved in 'activities that go against Canada's national interest' and has used his wealth to influence Canadian elections.

The petition argues that Elon Musk is a member of a foreign government attempting to undermine Canadian sovereignty and requests the Prime Minister of Canada to revoke Musk's dual citizenship and his Canadian passport. Musk, born in South Africa, has Canadian citizenship because his mother is Canadian and is known as the owner of the social network X, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and one of the richest individuals in the world.

The entrepreneur has been criticized for his close collaboration with U.S. President Donald Trump and for supporting the idea of annexing Canada. Musk, who heads the Government Efficiency Department in the U.S. government, has faced criticism for asking federal employees to summarize their work in recent days under the threat of firing if they do not comply with the request.

Following Musk's order, leaders of several federal agencies and unions have urged workers not to respond. Trump has praised Musk for his work and has asked him to be 'more aggressive' in his actions. Despite the criticism, Musk has defended the transparency of his management in the Government Efficiency Department and has carried out a massive layoff of public officials since taking office.
