Trudeau Responds to Trump's Tariffs Amid Fentanyl Crisis

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, expressed his disappointment at the decision of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to impose tariffs on his country and Mexico. This measure will directly affect American citizens, as prices for essential products such as groceries and gasoline will rise, as well as significant purchases such as cars and homes.

Trudeau lamented that this decision also undermines the national security of the United States by hindering access to critical minerals, energy, construction materials, and fertilizers necessary for the country's growth and development. He stated that there is no justification for these tariffs, as Canada has worked alongside the United States to combat the trafficking of fentanyl, a drug that poses a threat to both countries.

At a press conference, Trudeau emphasized that less than 1 percent of the illegal fentanyl entering the United States comes from Canada and that his country has implemented an ambitious multimillion-dollar border plan to enhance security in the region. The Canadian Prime Minister warned the United States that he would not remove his tariffs until the neighboring country does the same.

Trudeau condemned that the imposition of tariffs by the United States generates a trade war that will ultimately harm American families. He assured that the border between both countries is already secure and that significant investments and strategies have been implemented to combat fentanyl trafficking, including artificial intelligence systems and drones to detect and prevent the smuggling of this drug.
