Three-quarters of Canadians oppose the idea of an economic union with the United States in which Canada would adopt the US dollar, according to local media reports today. According to a survey conducted by Nanos, the proposed concept would be similar to what occurs in the European Union (EU), where there is free trade and the free movement of people within the EU, but each nation retains control over healthcare, education, and taxation within its borders.
A total of 65 percent of respondents oppose an economic union with the United States and the adoption of the US dollar, while 10 percent were "somewhat opposed," the report indicated. Nine percent supported the idea, and 11 percent said they somewhat support the idea, reported the local TV News channel.
The survey of 1,001 Canadian adults was conducted between February 28 and March 5.
