President Claudia Sheinbaum commented on the election of Mark Carney as Prime Minister of Canada, emphasizing that the relationship between the two countries will continue to be based on respect and cooperation. In her morning press conference, she congratulated the new Canadian leader and highlighted the importance of joint work within the framework of the Mexico, United States, and Canada Agreement (USMCA).
"A relationship of respect, as it has been with all presidents. This is the transition that was decided in Canada, so we send our congratulations from here and there will be an opportunity to congratulate him personally," Sheinbaum expressed.
Sheinbaum also underscored the relevance of bilateral and trilateral cooperation in economic and trade matters. "A relationship of respect and, obviously, joint work in the face of the trade agreement we have among the three countries." Although she did not specify when a possible meeting with Carney might take place, the president emphasized that Mexico maintains a policy of respect towards other governments and will seek to strengthen the relationship with Canada under the new administration.
