Sophie Grégoire Reflects on Trudeau's Departure

Sophie Gregoire, former wife of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, is now engaged to her partner in an unexpected position, barely making it to the achievements of her former husband during his tenure in power.

Trudeau stepped down in January after sharp criticism from his party colleagues over disagreements regarding interactions with American President Donald Trump.

Although Gregoire and Trudeau separated in 2023, the 49-year-old ex-television host used her Instagram account to reminisce about her relationship with Trudeau, publicly posting three photographs in light of his resignation last Monday.

One of the publicized photos featured their 16-year-old daughter Ella Grace, while another was of Trudeau, whose eyes were filled with tears, and also a photo of the new Prime Minister Mark Carney and his wife Diana.

Gregoire wrote a long post about herself, her children, the Liberal Party and its new leader, not mentioning much about the achievements of her former husband. In the message she said: "It was a remarkable journey, wasn't it?"

Then she added: "Perhaps, someday I will find the right words to describe the depth of my experience as a person, a woman, the unofficial first lady, the mother of their three children, whose good father Justin served his country in the best way".

Further, Gregoire praised her daughter, who confidently represented her father during his announcement of accepting leadership in the Liberal Party last Sunday, saying: "Ella Grace, you spoke confidently, representing your father, and your mom could not be prouder, seeing your principled mind and gentle heart".

Then she congratulated Mark Carney, emphasizing that the work is still not finished, and said: "Congratulations to Mark Carney, who will continue to shine a light on our real situation and the path we are on. Our work is not done yet, and bright days are still ahead".

After the announcement of the divorce in August 2023, Gregoire began dating pediatric surgeon Dr. Marcus Petoll, and they were seen together in public places. Gregoire showed notable activity in mountain skiing, posting a video on Instagram, where she enjoys skiing with her children in the Rock Mountains in western Canada, saying: "I was born to ski, the slopes of Red Mountain, soft snow, and people, you are wonderful!"

She continued: "I started skiing at four years old when my father put plastic skis on my winter boots in Quebec... Sometimes I fell on my face, but I always got up and smiled brightly. I never stopped skiing since those times".

Gregoire concluded: "Mountains, no, wind, cold - this is my friends and the path to freedom, I feel liberated and strong when skiing on the slopes, whether on steep snowy slopes or at a speed of 80 km/h on the slopes. My ultimate dream is to be out there next to our children... Get out there, it's therapy for the soul".
