Canada loses Davies to injury ahead of World Cup

Canada, a co-host of the FIFA World Cup, has suffered a significant blow to its preparations after head coach Jesse Marsch announced that defender Alphonso Davies will not feature in the upcoming friendlies against Iceland and Tunisia due to injury. Davies, 25, returned to the pitch in December last year after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in March 2025. The hamstring injury he suffered during Bayern Munich's Champions League match against Atlético Madrid (6-1) has sidelined him. "Returning from long-term injuries is not easy. We just need to take the right steps to ensure there are no further setbacks," Marsch said. "We will likely leave him in Munich to fully recover and return to full fitness, and I am confident he will do that."
