A local cafe in Ottawa, Canada, has decided to rename the popular drink "Americano" to "Canadian" in its menu as a protest against the US President Donald Trump’s remarks about Canada's annexation. The owner of Morning Owl Cafe, Todd Simpson, stated that this is a minor change aimed at "slimming serious implications," adding that they currently do not need American products.

"Canadian" is a standard coffee drink consisting of espresso and hot water. The import duties imposed by the US and Trump's statements about the annexation of Canada have led many to purchase Canadian products. Some Canadian coffee brands, including Kicking Horse Coffee from British Columbia, have changed their names to "Canadian" or have emphasized their "Canadian pride" by choosing Canadian products. Now, Simpson hopes that other companies will follow their example.

Simpson mentioned that the idea came from a friend after seeing various restaurants and different stores introducing similar changes. Now the menu panel at the cafe proudly displays "Canadian," including a red-and-white maple leaf. According to him, it is "a genuinely good way to say that we are Canadians."
