Mark Carney has assumed the position of Prime Minister of Canada on Friday after taking the oath in front of the Governor General Charles III, in Ottawa. Carney (59 years old) is a former head of the central bank and a newcomer in politics. On Sunday, he was elected leader of the Liberal Party with a significant majority. He replaced Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation at the beginning of January after nearly a decade in power. "The Prime Minister and members of his cabinet took the constitutional oath at 11 am in Ottawa before the Governor General Mary Simon," the statement said from the Office of the Governor General. The transfer of power came after Carney proposed a new cabinet in which many ministers remained in their positions. The new Prime Minister emphasized the importance of trust and cooperation between the government and the opposition.
