Major Drug Bust in Toronto: 835 kg of Cocaine Seized

In Canada, the Police announced the seizure of 835 kilograms of cocaine, valued at 83 million dollars, in Toronto, marking the largest drug haul in the city's history, belonging to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) of Nemesio Oseguera, known as 'El Mencho'. This operation, called Castillo, began in August 2024 and culminated in the arrest of six people, two Mexicans and four Canadians, in Toronto and nearby communities.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw mentioned that they are looking for three other individuals in connection with the drugs, two Mexicans and one Canadian. He emphasized that the seizure of this significant amount of cocaine will have a positive impact on the communities, not only in Toronto but throughout the country, as part of the drugs were intended for other regions of Canada. Among those wanted are Robert Nolin, 60, from Niagara Falls, and Alexis Arroyo and Marco Riviera, both 31, who are believed to be in Mexico.

It is noted that this is the first time the Jalisco New Generation cartel has operated in Canada. In addition to the 835 kilograms seized, another 360 kilograms of cocaine were found in homes in the Toronto metropolitan area. The operation was carried out by the Major Projects section of the TPS Drug Squad, with the collaboration of various police entities.

Police Chief Demkiw highlighted the importance of international collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking, especially in this case where the cocaine was intercepted coming from Mexico. This incident adds to recent operations against drug trafficking, such as the dismantling of a "super-laboratory" for fentanyl in British Columbia and the seizure of large quantities of this substance.

These actions in Canada occur in a context of trade tensions after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff due to the flow of migrants and drugs coming from both countries.
